I've been windsurfing since 1986, mostly at Shabbona Lake with a group of Shabbona loyalists. I try to hit the water on vacations. I am a 2 time cancer survivor. I belong to an elite group of windsurfing/surfing Illinois dentists and as far as I know we are a group of only 2. My wife and 3 children have not gotten the sailing bug.
Just loaded the car for the trip out to Shabbona for the afternoon. not enough time to get to LM before the Labor day bash tonight. I suspect I'll see some of the Shabbona crew out there.
Randy, I was at Little Sable on July 5. Went home to Illinois on the 9th. Starting to look at dates to visit Ludington again for a weekend, maybe we can sail.
Mark, what day were you at Little Sable Point? I was the lone windsurfer on the 10th. I had a great 6.0 session. I think I am the only one left that has not gone to kiting. They look at me like I am crazy. Oh well. I love windsurfing.
Thanks for the tip John, sadly I was unable to sail today. Was on hamlin with family giving pre-scheduled (scheduled when the wind was only forecast for 6 mph) pontoon boat rides with fishing, tubing, and climbing the dunes on Hamlin Lake. When departing the lake we cruised the boat south at 23 mph with almost no wind in our faces or boat canopy, so I knew I missed the thermals there. I apprecia
Michigan on Lake Michigan, Ludington for the Fourth of July week. First day with wind today. Went howlin' in and out of the beach with a 7.5m sail. Forecast just changed for tomorrow, all the sudden the 6mph day has changed to 15mph wind.
Ended up at Little Sable Point, MI. Wind picked up at 3 pm. for a fun session with my 7.5 on Mistral Energy 140. Practiced carving jibes, carved a couple, crashed a couple more. Need more time on the water to cut down on the crashing part.
Hope to catch some gusts on Hamlin Lake, Mi. this afternoon. Hauled the gear over to Mich. for the worst week of wind yet this year. This p.m. is the only forecast of wind all week here.
