Those videos make me want to get one! Like many, I learned on one of the original version. It was during summer of 1977 when I was 12! I’m gonna try to find one to rent/try somewhere to see how it feels again.
2023 WINDSURFER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
10 months 1 week ago #4
"The aim was to produce a board so simple it could be picked up off the beach and enjoyed by a first-time sailor as well as offering superb tactical fleet racing to a more advanced sailor. In mid 2016, upon Windsurfer Class Europe request, COBRA team started working on a project that led to a final perfect combination of board shape, rocker and underwater profile."
"Since February 2018 the official Windsurfer Class board is the new Windsurfer LT. The new board represent a significant evolution versus the original One Design,"
- 74cm wide, 229L
- COBRA’s single shot AST construction technology. A lightweight EPS core
- EVA soft foam deck
- powerbox rear fin
- clamp-on monocoque aluminium boom
- 460 cm standard diameter (SDM) two-piece mast, 40% carbon content
- modern mast box, extension and joint, euro pin.
Not quite the same thing but if we ever plan on sailing the same spot on the same day I'd happily toss my Kona board in the truck. Bought it mostly for the footstraps but the board is absolutely great. Lower "skunk" threshold than even foiling, and can actually be fun to plane on.
Seems like there used to be some windward/leeward racing in WI? Would love to try that out although I think I know where I'd finish.
