Hey amigos, I'll be rolling through Kansas on Thursday. It looks like there will be a good North/ Northwest wind on Wilson lake. I've sailed Wilson in the past in March and it was epic, but cold. I'm wondering if anyone knows the best place to launch on a North, and what the water temp. might be. Thanks! Wendell G.
Hi, Wendell. I haven't sailed Wilson Lake, but as an alternative, if you head east another 2.5 hours on US 70 you'll come to Perry Lake just outside Lawrence, KS. Perry State Park has an area called Hobie Cove. I camped there on waters edge for a week a few years ago. Great sailing and good on a north wind. Bring your road bike and mountain bike as well...good riding there on the off days (which don't happen very often in KS).
Thanks Paul, I will be sure to check it out in the future. I'm already booked in Wilson at the historic railroad inn. Great bar and restaurant. There is good mountain biking at Wilson Lake as well. At one time it was listed in Epic rides in America.
