Kind of too late to ask for confirmation, but I bought myself a rig today (6.8 m2) off isthmussail website
It seems to be a good deal. What do you guys think?
isthmussailboards.com/2017-gaastra-hybrid-hd-rig.html
Pros:
Gaastra Hybrid HD
X-ply. Long good history of sail making.
GT CC60
60% carbon. Constant curve will work with most sail brands now(Gaastra, Goya, Ezzy, Maui Sails...)
Aeron 1-bolt EP tendon base
Tendon
Cons:
GT CC60
It's not RDM. I prefer skinny mast for 490 and down. RDMs have a thicker wall thickness, durability, easier rigging, more effective sail area, less drag.
Exchange upgrade cost: $20 more for a RDM GT CC60
Aeron HD AL standard Medium EP extension
Not RDM.
Exchange upgrade cost: $21 more for a RDM extension to work with RDM masts
Aeron 1-bolt EP tendon base
Not a 2 bolt quick-release. One bolts like to slip without a rubber disk(home made).
Exchange upgrade cost: $32 more for a 2 bolt quick-release.
RRD Flow AL T-8 29mm grip 180
At 180 can't go much smaller than 6.2 roughly. Doesn't have an articulating head. Not a monocoque one piece body. Doesn't have modern bend. T8 alloy not as strong and less stiffness as T9 alloy, 29mm grip. I like 27mm.
Exchange upgrade cost: $89 more for a T9 Alloy monocoque 27mm 150-210cm
Total exchange upgrade cost
Only $162 give or take.
Over $700 to do it later without exchange.
My 2 cents. Hope this helps.
