TOPIC: Gaastra Sail fit for the museum!

Gaastra Sail fit for the museum! 7 years 8 months ago #1

I kept this sail for 30 years and for some reason never wanted to ditch it. I was told I can't throwaway much anything...
Today in WI, there was a nice SE 25 kts but only 34 degrees, so I had time to go through old stuff and for the first time in 25 years, here it is; all rigged up!
Circa 1987: Gaastra Slalomfoil 4.4m2. Notice the 2 exposed cambers! The sail could be rigged w/o the cambers and converted with 2 short battens instead. Dacron + laminated Mylar on one face (slightly delaminates here an there throughout). The leech has a tensioning string the runs top to bottom to close/open the leech - more or less. It supposed to be rigged on an SDM mast (but I only have RDMs). Love the colors!
I'm gonna hang it on the ceiling in my office!

Wow, I had a 3.2 and 3.9 in that exact sail the first summer I went to the Gorge. Somewhere I have a bunch of pictures riding those...
