TOPIC: Beginner setup for sale, or fast flat water board

Beginner setup for sale, or fast flat water board 8 years 4 months ago #1

For the regulars, I bought most of this from Chris a year ago. Turns out I really don't have time to re-learn windsurfing. Although this board is great to learn on *in flat water*, montrose is never flat when there's wind, so I'd have to drive a long way, which means sailing only on the weekends, which means I don't have enough time right now.

See chicago.craigslist.org/chc/spo/5732543770.html for pics.

Bic Techno Formula 170, professionally modified:
- Rear trim box replaced with a much stronger deep tuttle box (just like later production models did).
- Fitted with a trim-fin box in a central daggerboard position. This takes an extremely fast and early planing board and makes it appropriate for a beginner to learn in light winds. If you wanna go fast, take out the trim fin, put in the long formula fin, and you're off.

Here's a review: joewindsurfer.blogspot.com/2012/07/bic-techno-formula.html

The board is not perfect. It has had repairs, and the graphics are getting tired. However, the bottom and the rails are in great shape. Plus it comes with all the accessories that would cost you an extra $200 or more.

Included accessories:
- Chinook mast base ($30 used)
- FCS Dolphin fin 10.0" (trim base, $15 used)
- True Ames Series II 13.74" fin (tuttle base ~$50 used)
- Select Ride 44cm fin (deep tuttle base ~$50 used)
- Extra Long stainless screws for mounting the fins. ($10)
- 4 foot straps (the cheapest are about $20 each new. Hard to find used)
- Epic Gear board bag (~$50 used)

Also available:
1) 5.0 2006 Ezzy Sails Wave SE in very good condition -- no tears or rips. Just a little wear on one of the batten sleeves. (FYI, Ezzy sails are some of the most durable and long-lasting on the market.) ($250)
2) 400 cm Neil Pryde 100% X9 carbon mast in very good condition ($250)
(Ezzy sail and NP Mast and sail together for $400)
3) a Chinook Pro-1 Alloy boom 167-203 cm ($75)
4) Chinook mast extension, w new dyneema downhaul($25).
5) Simmer Sails Fly 6.8, good condition ($150)
6) Fiberglass/Carbon mast, 460cm for Fly 6.8. ($50)

Take it all for $1000. This is an excellent package to get you on the water.

"...which means sailing only on the weekends..." and how many times is there wind on the weekends? 4 or 5 times at most for the whole season. I don't blame you, the availability of time on the water is the greatest obstacle to this sport IMO. Its not the complexity, its not even the outrageous prices, it is the ever shrinking free time so typical of our times I believe. If you are on a fixed work schedule you are already screwed for windsurfing, add to that family with kids and it gets close to imposible to have any time just for yourself and there is the mercy of the weather on top of that.
Hope it sells quickly!

Still for sale? I'm in Decatur Il and I think I'm ready to give windsurfing a try again.
Thanks,
