Anyone? Probably not worth it, but for a last one of the year, as it looks like, I might make the trip. I started the 2019 on 01.08 on Clinton and it seems fitting to end it here. But you never know, my last session for 2018 has been 12.30 on Wolf-a 7.5 conditions and it seems I’ve liked it enough to give it a 5 stars in my app! Well, for this late in the year my criteria are significantly low-I’ll give 3 stars just for getting on the water.
The worse part is getting out of bed early on a day off while imagining what it might be like out there. Once past this point I’m good, the winter attire is ready for action. Even got myself a car seat towel for changing inside my car without making a mess.
Stole a day from the claws of cruel winter. And it’s been a very decent one-something like a 70% planing, air in the lower 50s with the sun poking occasionally through the clouds and water far from being freezing. Started with my ION jacket on, but got quickly too hot and had to take it off . The wind wasn’t much but I was able to plane at least a bit on every run from just past 11 am till 3 pm. Not bad for December, thats border line 4 stars on my winter scale.
I forgot to mention that this session I paid the most attention to doing both tacks and jibes boom to boom during the transitions instead of mast to boom like I used to. I don’t know which is the “proper” one, there are benefits to both approaches probably, but it just seemed to me while looking at Reid and other windsurfers with more experience that the boom to boom at least looks cooler and more advanced so to speak. I was surprised that it didn’t feel as difficult as it has before, apparently the progress in my skills in general has payed off. I felt like holding the boom is more secure and gives me a better control of the rig overall, especially with cold hands and mittens and maybe it would be beneficial in overpowered conditions also.
