Mo Wind 2024 5 months 3 weeks ago #1

Hi Reid,
Is there Mo Wind CLSA Regatta scheduled for 2024. I'm trying to plan a trip east for this summer / fall.
Been enjoying your posts and photos.

Hey, John. Rick is head of the CLSA Race Committee. He talked about September again. I'll try to get what weekend. He went to the Windpower Walleye regatta 5/18 on lake Winnebago to see if he could drum up an even bigger crowd for his regatta at Clinton. Be great to see you again.

If the fall event at Clinton happens, I am going to try and come down with my Kona board to give racing a try. Have done a lot of sailboat racing but think longboard might be quite a trip!

Just heard from Rick. It's going to be September 28th and 29th. It's on!

Did a lot of One Design and Div.II Longboard racing thru the 80's. Went to the MoWind at CLSA last year and after 30+ years it was a great memory trip and much fun. The folks at Clinton were great and I had a great time. You should definitely go. I am planning to attend this year, all the way from California. Hopefully there is More Wind for 2024. :) JP

What boards work for this? I have a Kona longboard (same specs as Kona One just older) but have also been thinking about getting an old raceboard/longboard for use at a relatives lake cabin where it's super light and shifty to get out of their bay, so thought something long and narrow might be good there. Was looking at a Bic Bamba, would that work for racing?

Back in the 80's we used Bic's for writing letters. Just kidding. Mistral Superlight One Design with a large/race centerboard. Good in any wind, almost. I use a late 80's Mistral Equipe, with a race blade, for stronger winds.

If it takes two of ya to put it on the car.
If it says, "Proudly made in West Germany".
If you're not sure if to classify it as boat or board.

Picked up what I think is a first generation Fanatic Ultra Cat. It's like a mile long, but filled with neat little features that all work. Has a nice cover for the trailing edge of the centerboard, which is a massive carbon fin. The sliding mast track seems to work great. Super cool 80s graphics. As soon as I can I'm going to try this thing out.

The sliding mast track car is plastic, and almost as old as I am. Thinking about making a a car out of aluminum to make it bomb proof. Do any other boards use this design of mast track car? Making a single piece takes nearly as much time as making a couple, so if there are other boards that might use this setup I could make more.
