Wind WNW turning NW in the 4.7 to 4.2 range after the front passes in the afternoon. Rain in the morning. Air temp starts at 55 F. Could be The Road launch if it has enough NW in it. Be nice to have the warmer water. Will give updates.
Really great session, can't wait to see the wind history. Got rigged at 1:00pm then realized I had no boom, oh shit, called my son and he met me half way to the lake with it so I got on the water by 2:00pm. Started out good, I was getting good rides on 5.2 but wasn't what I was wishing for, then I guess around 2:30pm it picked up and was awesome. Best session of the year for me, Water was so warm and the wind just kept building, blazing fast runs on the far side with ramps in the middle. Evidently Reid got the best of it when I was running to get my boom. Rich showed up as well, we had the lake to ourselves except for one or two boats. Fantastic time! .
Gusts near 50 mph. Decatur had a gust near 50 mph in the 1:00 pm hour. I drove to the marina first before the front when through to see if I could find my fin bolt. Wham!...the front went through. One of the most violent wind shifts ever. See graphs below. Never found my bolt. Drove over to Purgatory to launch with Chris. Rain started. Wind was howling. After the rain I checked the direction. Wind was coming into the cove. Wind was coming from the west treeline of the main pool and not out of the dam pool. Purgatory Cove should be shadowed except for sneaker gusts. This was NW wind, so off to The Road we went. Even the air temp feels warmer at The Road. The water must help warm the air. My 4.7 was lit and uncomfortable for the first half hour while Chris went to pick up his boom. Then we had a lull around 2;00. It was right when we were almost in the full clearing. Once the sky cleared east of the lake it was back on. Rich joined the fun with 6.0 and his RRD FSW. We were all lit. The boys had to come in to give their outhaul one more boom click out. I got off the water around 5:00 when I was having a hard time getting a waterstart. Ran out of battery to capture Rich. Water temp at The Road was 75 F. I could get away with wearing my 3.2 suit even with the cool air temp. Great day.
(4.7 sail, 95 L) It's that time of year.. This long line of leaves was there in this one spot all day. Must be where the wind current meets river current.
(4.7 sail, 95 L) You could rip turns on the far side. I was shocked how far the wind would let us go in boat ramp cove. Stay down wind of the buoys. They mark stumps.
(4.7 sail, 95 L) Plenty of ramps out there.
