I lost hope for Saturday, it seems like it’s going to rain really bad and the wind direction sucks. Not giving up on Sunday just yet. I see a chance for Clinton’s bridge launch. 7.5 at best and cold, but hey its December, I can’t be picky!
Wasted a good day perhaps. Woke up 7:30, checked the forecast and decided that it’s not worth leaving a warm bed. 2 hrs later, wide awake now I started regretting my decision, but it was too late for Clinton at this point /getting ready takes me a long time/. Off to Wolf, trying to salvage what’s left of the day. Lancing readings looked ok, so I stayed optimistic until the very launch. The reality finally caught up to me when I made an unsuccessful attempt at beach starting. My persistence didn’t get rewarded this time and from 12:30 to 15:00 I had a very little planing time. Probably I should have started earlier with the sail rotations-my secret wind summoning ritual.
Well, at least I put my 3 layered winter attire to the test and it paseo with flying colors. Only my feet were cold, but they are chronically cold and I know from previous winters that once planing continuously they’ll warm up . That didn’t happen. By 3 o’clock I had enough of waiting for wind and called it a day. Even though I started seeing the vapor in my breath and the air temperature was 39F I still felt so warm that I changed in my clothes outside of my car.
OMG, I’m planing!
And jibing!
Open mittens lets you blow on your hands to keep them warm.
Way to go! Man that's cold out there. Looking at your pictures I can see you in that ION jacket Santa is going to bring you. That should keep you even toastier. And it has a hook opening.
