Not so common SSE wind today, completely sideshore at Greenwood, notable for wind as steady as I have ever sailed in Midwest, sailed a 7.0 from 10:30 to 1. Easy swell both directions, no knee-jarring chop, as relaxing a sail as can be. Nobody else out until I had to quit.
Yup- it is a rare day for strong SSE at greenwood. Many times the crib readings (some 2 miles offshore downtown chicago) will show strong SE, but those winds often don't seem to show up at greenwood. Today luckily that wasn't the case. The winds really picked up in the midafternoon, with several sailors out on 5.7-6.5 m sails. I got on the water around 3:30, and was fully powered on my 5.7 for a couple of hours. I think there were 7 sailors in the water late afternoon. Offshore it was super fun bump and jump with lots of ramps, and the shorebreak was minimal.
