Has anyone windsurfed Shabona Lake? I live southwest of the city and want to try out my windsurf equipment that has sit idle for far to long. I would prefer not windsurf on Lake Michigan until I have some experience with my equipment and make sure that my sails are not dry rotted. Also would like a small lake, just incase I had to paddle my equipment back to shore. I know Wolf's lake is a reasonable option for me, but I think lake shabona is easier to get to from my house in Plainfield.
Shabbona Lake has 318.8 acres within the 1,554 acres of Shabbona Lake State Park. I've never been there, but 318.8 acres is large enough for nice windsurfing.
The lake I sail the most in IA has only 75 acres, George Wyth Lake in George Wyth State Park nestled between Cedar Falls & Waterloo. Over the years that small size might have held me back (though I know my underlying ability for speed was never strong). But for starting out again, something more than 4 times larger should be quite good for you.
