I recently noticed that Goya recommends adding 2cm to the outhaul sail spec for the boom length when using the shim on an RDM mast. The Goya and Chinook boom clip and RDM shim are almost identical and I wonder if the same would apply. Would anyone have an answer or perspective on that?
That's how I rig my Goya freeride sail. Sail spec is 202+- 2, I usually rig 204+-2, any less than 202 and the sail is touching the boom no matter what the downhaul setting is. This probably applies to the sails that are RDM/SDM compatible, not too many models. With my sail, I find there is not much outhaul range at a given downhaul setting, gets very loose or very tight over very small range. Leech looseness doesn't change very much either through the downhaul range. I am using a HotSailsMaui mast, apparently very similar to Goya slight flex top.
