Quick update on a new GoPro-compatible floaty I recently bought and tested. This was to replace my original GoPro backdoor floaty that was falling apart. I got a “Bodhi Floaty” on Amazon. It is an orange molded EVA foam case in which the GoPro camera slides/fits in. This product seemed like a great idea as it offers more buoyancy, better protection against accidental chocks on the camera, and an unrestricted access to the camera display for easy on-the-fly settings. All good, right?
Nope! The product has a major flaw for windsurfing applications: When mounted on the boom-end, water velocity/movements caused by crashes, waves or other factors, pulls the floaty away from the camera lens and enters into the field of view, thus cutting off a part of the images (see pics). Despite all good intentions, the product is not a success and cannot really be fixed by the consumers.
The only thing this floaty might need to prevent this issue, is a small lip or rim extending over the top edge of the display/backdoor. This might be enough to keep the floaty hugging the camera tightly ...see below.

Bodhi Floaty installed correctly
Floaty pulled away and recessing the camera lens too far inside.
Resulting image/video view partially obstructed on one of the camera’s long sides.
