The JAG is definitely easier to take to higher speeds. It doesn’t need a whole lot of convincing and pushing to get moving fast. With the Bolt, I had to be overpowered to reach top speed. With the JAG, I’m already above 30kn without really trying and being over the edge. With more recent sessions in moderate swell and chop on Lake Michigan, it is still a workout to try to go fast and I can feel my physical condition is not what it needs to reach better performance yet. Although, I had a session last week on lake Winnebago near Oshkosh in some fairly deep chop and I manage to take the board in control above 29kn over a fairly long speed run. For some that might not be that big of a deal but for me, reaching close to 30 kn on that lake in pretty rough conditions, is rather unexpected.
I really liked the Bolt, especially my 125l from 2018. I think it is the perfect fast freeriding board for Midwest conditions for my weight (187lb). It ticked almost all the boxes. The JAG ticks almost the same boxes except that it has faster potential top speed.
I think I’ve reached what the Bolt could provide with my level and gear setup. But I feel like the JAG opens up new potential that I wasn’t able to reach before and an opportunity to improve strength and technique that’s giving me continued excitement for the sport.
