I had my Ezzy sail rigged poorly but was making it work one day. Reid added down hall and let the luff in and it was amazing the difference. I had better control in the gusts, felt more lift in my jumps and it the sail transition more smoothly during my jybes.
Yeah, the difference between my max and min downhaul settings is only 1” . More then that makes the sails top heavy, prone to catapulting and it doesn’t help with early planing or jumping because it pushes the nose down. Taller peaople , like Rich, may have a better underdownhaul tolerance tough.
Btw Reid, Im also curious how a properly rigged Ezzy does feel on the water
Properly Rigged Ezzy on the water
Symptoms include:
• Tingling of the hands and feet • Overwhelming feeling of euphoria • Loss of time perception • Out of body sensation • Giddiness, uncontrollable laughter • Numbness of tongue and lips
I'm finding that if I give the MS Screams full downhaul/extension setting and then mess with the outhaul on the water (more outhaul to reduce back hand pressure), the sails have a lot of range for me. Still messing around with it but having fun!
Had a great time sailing with everyone and I kept resting after each failed turn to watch you three show me how it's done! Great sunny day and good ole Clinton wind
Fun day at West Side. Sailed my 5.8 with 108 L. A couple of reaches up wind the wind was solid and the water less rough from the bounce chop. Flat water can be found in the coves up wind on the south west side. Everybody wanted to sail close to shore in the bounce chop so hung out there. The Cliff had flat water and boosted wind. Rich went the fastest I've seen him go on his new board. Chris and Rich shot some nice pics of me with my camera. Thanks! Great to see Ady again rippin' .
Reid, thank you for all the awesome pictures! You make me look too good by cherry picking them and probably you can post some of my spectacular crashes so we can have a good laugh at my expense I think I reached a 100% crash rate by trying to pose for the camera , a great achievement! I remember I got so close to the pier at the last jibe attempt that I freaked out and turned so hard that the board spun out and got airborne for a moment....before the crash. I suspect the side fins would have prevented that if I had them on. It’s in those hard turns that you feel them bite and keep the board settled like on rails instead of spinning out of control.
I feel like improving significantly my small board skills since the start of this season and in no small part due to my trips to Clinton, though I’m still very far from the fluidity and consistency that you and Chris display every time. Not to mention that Im terrible at developing my tactical game plan according the conditions and kit that Im using for the day. Practice is king-23 small board sessions so far this year compared to just 9 for the whole of 2016, because I bought the 94 around this time last year. Btw I count a session when using a kit for at least 1 hr during a day. Many days on Wolf I have 2 sessions because of using 2 different kits, usually the 5.7/94 and 6.5/110.
