If I had the day to do over again I would have shown up at Wooded Beach as late as 3:00pm and rigged 4.0. I got to the marina pool from Wooded Beach around 1:00 with 4.8. And sailed/slogged over to Nuclear Cove. The wind was puff and shifty at that time but I saw the potential. I sailed back and we went to J17. And around 3:00 the wind locked in big time. I had already re-rigged my 4.8 and was way overpowered. I wore my thinnest suit and still had to dunk in the water to cool off. Next warm day might be the time for me to break out the Lycra.
I tried to follow Reid over to explore the cove but not enough wind. It was good workout launching and de-rigging and moving to J17. I was fortunate that the wind just started building around 3 and good rides were had. If do over I would have dropped my gear at the beach launch and parked my van at J17 then walked the trail to launch and sail back to J17. Love that spot! Now there is a nice double seated Adirondack chair memorial right on the beach. Front row seats with table in between, can’t beat that.
