W  olf Lake Park is without a doubt the most famous windsurfing launch site for Illinois.  It may not have the largest fetch, but it sure can have the largest crowd.  If you're passing through Chi-town on business, and the wind is right, be sure to check out Wolf Lake Park.  Also don't forget to join the crowd at the White Hen for some post-session refreshments.   "Milo mi" (It's nice to meet you).

RIG & LAUNCH
» Wolf Lake Park has a grassy rigging area in front of its large parking lot.   There is a parking fee during the summer months that runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Watch where you rig. Water fowl are attracted to the area and often fertilize the grass.

WIND
» Wolf Lake works best with any wind from the south, southwest, and west.  There is a small island just offshore of the launch.  It has a small wind shadow that one can easily get around.  Any other wind direction and you're better off sailing the big lake only 5 minutes away.

WATER
» The mud bottom slopes out waist deep, so getting out past the island is not a problem.   This is a public park with industry near by.  It is advisable to wear booties/shoes for the bottom and watch for debris on the surface.  A weed fin is a must in the summer months.  Watch out for the shallow area on the far side.  It's marked with a rock pile and a flag. The swell can roll in nicely on strong westerly winds.
