About Me

Basic Information

  • About me

Learned windsurf at the age of 12 on a Windsurfer on the beautiful French Rivera.
This sport has been life-long passion even though I haven't been sailing in 15 years. But I'm back and intend to have some fun on the water again. Now Lake Michigan and Lake Winebago is my playground.
I still own a 1984 Local Motion 290x58cm custom in great shape. This was for sure my favorite toy when I was in my twenties!

Agree! The ION protector saved my AtomIQ a few times already. In Bonaire all the boards at The Windsurf Place had the exact same nose foam...

Hey Ady, since you are well versed in everything-Ion, do you know where to find their "MAST/BOARD PROTECTOR"?

I like your idea. Maybe in 2018!

Ha ha, the wifi issues! Man, they are so jealous of our hobbies that will do whatever they can to get even. Consider yourself lucky if it's just spending she'll punish you with. About the mast: I'm using currently a Ka Sails mast leftover from my 5.8 Ka sail. Its a bit softish for a Revo so Im planing to replace it with a Sumo sometime this season.
And last but not least-congratulations on your new board! It will be challenging but rewarding and will keep windsurfing exciting for you .

Yeah, I saw the images in Reid's post. Nice! I wouldn't be able to go out in such cold weather though, so hats-off for that! How do you plan on carrying all that gear? Minivan? Truck?
Other topic: What mast do you use with your 5.7 Revo?
I have to confess: I bought the first-arrived 2017 Naish 100l Starship! Delivery is Friday! My wife wants to compete with my recent windsurf spending spree... not good

You are welcome Greg! I may start experimenting this season with the idea of 3 boards and 6 sails -2 sails assigned to every board . In my case 110 to 7.5 and 6.5; 94 to 5.7 and 5.2 and 86 to 4.6 and 4.2 . Ill see how it goes from here and if something needs to change.

I would go for a 4.7 Revo if I were you. Unfortunately you'll need a 400 mast also. 5.7 and 4.7 are great sizes and will keep you on the water while you are deciding if you need any other sizes at all.

I wouldn't use a sail from back then on a modern board. If it's a baggy sail from the 80s it will have the power of today's 5.7 at least and will pull to who knows where.

So if I'm hearing you well, you are saying that 5.0 to 5.7 is to big of a gap? I have a 4.5 from back then but still in good shape and was thinking of getting something in between that and the 5.7, while keeping a size difference ratio of about 14%-15%. My quiver is built on this size difference ratio. It has a bit of overlap between sizes but it worked great last year. Knowing I have a 8.5, 7.5, 6.5 Ezzy's and a 5.7 Revo, what's your recommendation for smaller Revo?

  • Ady Gregory
I had a 5.0 once and it didn't see any use so I sold it too. The 5.7;5.2;4.7;4.2 wave sails quiver is so popular for a reason.

Thanks Ady for sharing. I found a new 2015 5.0 Revo at an incredible price that would almost be criminal to pass!
