TOPIC: What brand makes a good PFD?

What brand makes a good PFD? 7 years 10 months ago #1

I'm looking for advice on Personal Flotation Device - or buoyancy vest or life vest - that woul be suitable and comfortable to use with a Dakine T7 harness. Does anyone have a recommendation based on experience?
Thanks and happy sailing!

At Isthmus they have all the safety gear you may need:

Including the new inflatable belts wich many of the pro big wave riders now use /ive heard/. I'm using the Dakine impact vest /had to crack my ribs twice in the waves before starting to use it though/. Also I would recomend you again a board nose protector like this one:

My own mast/board ION protector is visible in the picture above.
PS: the impact vest doesnt have any pockets, so for those intending to cary along a trunk full of junk  the better option will be this floatation vest with a big front pocket:

I'm using the side pocket of my stretch board shorts to store my stuff.

The Kokatat Bahia has worked very well for me. I can wear it with my seat harness, and with my Dakine T4 as well. One advantage to this life vest is that it is very minimal construction on the bottom back side, making it less bulky for harnesses. It also is high enough in the front for my waist harness. The other pluses are all the pockets for safety gear, like a radio or PLD.
