L
ooking at the corner launch one would likely say to himself, “There’s no freakin’ way it could blow
here." Despite its short fetch and awkward appearance, The Corner is one of the most
rippin’ early spring hot spots at Clinton Lake. It will more then likely be the place
where you kick off the season.
RIG & LAUNCH
»
The boat ramp parking lot provides ample space, and if you tow a trailer then this lot was made for
you. The islands within the parking lot provide mowed grass to rig on. You then walk
your gear up to, well, the corner. The launch is rip-rapped, but there is smaller rock to the
left for easier entry. The low lying launch and the rigging areas are very wind exposed.
WIND
»
A south wind off the treeless shoreline is ideal for this location. The reason you’re launching
here is to avoid the offshore conditions at Marina Sail Park. The Corner is one of the most versatile
launches at Clinton Lake. You can sail when the wind is NE, S, SSW, SW and WSW. A south wind
likes to split and bend down both branches of the lake. The beneficial lift toward the end of runs extends
the distance of your reaches by making you follow a broad u-shape.
WATER
»
Once past the rip-rap the bottom is sand/hard-pack clay. It’s chest deep along the shore. Watch
for stumps in the boat ramp cove. The water temp at the launch is the second warmest at the lake in early
spring. The water will be cooler on the opposite shore. Formidable ramps will appear portside in
The Bridge pool, starboard in the Swim Beach pool, during strong south winds.
