Area 31 has been
witness to many unusual phenomena: 50°
water in February, currents that go
against the wind. The good citizens
of Dewitt, going to and from across
bridge 14, have reported seeing
"unidentified flying objects"
over the water.
RIG & LAUNCH
» Park at any
of the open campsites at or around A31.
Always park on the
gravel. These sites offer
plenty of grass to rig on. At
A31 youll see a path through the
trees down to a small beach.
Getting your fully rigged gear through
the trees can be tricky; some folks
choose to rig on the beach. There
are many campsites to launch from all the
way up to The Corner. Always yield
to paying campers.
WIND
» Area 31 is
best in the early spring/late fall when
cranking straight SW winds come
through. Youll have
gusty conditions if the wind goes too
much one way or the other of SW.
Catch a total wraparound low pressure
system in the early spring/late fall
where the front passes but the wind is
still blowing out of the SW.
Youll have a big day at Area 31
with the wind key broken off in the
"ON" position.
WATER
» This area
of the lake is a little under 1/2 mile
wide. The launch has a steep drop-off
with a sand/hard-pack clay bottom. The
water can be up to 7° warmer than at the
Marina. The bridge causes neutral
to negative wind current, and along with
the river channel, produces some of the
nicest formed swell on the
lake. Full back-loops have
been witnessed here in 4.0 conditions.
